Overview of the department
The Department of Pharmacognosy at Ashokrao Mane College of Pharmacy, Peth-Vadgaon, is a key part of the college’s teaching and research activities. Since the college began, the department has grown into a center of excellence in studying natural products and herbal medicines.
Our main goal is to study medicinal plants, natural substances, and traditional healing knowledge to help improve modern medicine. We aim to combine ancient wisdom with today’s scientific methods to create safe, effective, and eco-friendly medicines.
Staffed by a team of highly qualified and passionate faculty members — including Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors — we strive to impart a strong foundation in Pharmacognosy to our D. Pharm, B. Pharm, and M. Pharm students. Our teaching methodologies emphasize experiential learning, practical exposure, and research-driven education.

Infrastructure
The Department of Pharmacognosy is equipped with two well-established laboratories—one designated for undergraduate students and another for diploma students. These laboratories are fully furnished with essential instruments and equipment to support high-quality practical training and research in herbal sciences and Phytochemistry.
Medicinal Plant Garden – “Sanjeevani”
A highlight of the department is the “Sanjeevani” Medicinal Plant Garden, located within the college campus. Spanning an area of approximately 150 sq. meters, the garden is aesthetically landscaped and meticulously maintained by the Department of Pharmacognosy.
It houses over 50 species of medicinal plants, each labeled with botanical and common names for educational and research purposes. The garden is supported by a dedicated irrigation system, ensuring optimal growth conditions and sustainability of plant resources for teaching and research.
